From Sighthound health programs to education and outreach, The Greyhound Health Initiative relies completely on the generous support of volunteers and donors like you to fund and staff our programs. We know you have many options on where you make donations, and we appreciate that you are here considering giving to us! To make that process easier, we have assembled a variety of ways you can support us with the hope that at least one of them fits your giving preferences. Thank you!

Bequests

We are always so honored we someone thinks enough of us to put us in their Last Will and Testament. We generally recommend that you talk to your attorney when you make any changes to your estate, but we do have some basic references on different types of bequests if you’d like to get a head start before making that call:

General Bequest | Contingent Bequest | Residual Bequest

Shop at AmazonSmile

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support The Greyhound Health Initiative every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll get the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization, without taking a single extra penny from you!

Gifts of Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds

Transferring long-term appreciated securities (stocks, bonds or mutual funds) directly to The Greyhound Health Initiative, rather than selling the assets and then donating the cash proceeds, is one of the best and easiest ways for donors to maximize their gifts. By taking advantage of the applicable tax incentives, donors can significantly increase the amount of funds available to them for charitable giving. Any long-term appreciated securities with unrealized gains (meaning they were purchased over a year ago, and have a current value greater than their original cost) may be donated to a public charity and a tax deduction taken for the full fair market value of the securities. And, since the securities are donated rather than sold, capital gains taxes from selling the securities no longer apply. The more appreciation the securities have, the greater the tax savings will be.

To complete the transfer you’ll need to fill out a Charitable Gift Letter Of Authorization (LOA) with you broker. You will also need our account information to complete that form, so please contact Mandy at mandy@greyhoundhealthinitiative.org when you are ready for those details.

Gifts/Items for Auctions

Every year we have fundraising events and are always looking for items to put in them. Obviously greyhound-themed art, memorabilia, and accessories are always very popular but we also appreciate gift baskets of almost any theme, gift certificates, dog toys, etc. Please contact Mandy at mandy@greyhoundhealthinitiative.org for instructions on where to send items (or arrange pickup, if local or attending one of the events we’ll be as well).

Create your own Tails

(NEW!)
You can create your own Tails “Survivor” web page to tell the story of your special hound that’s fighting an illness or a “Memorial” web page in remembrance of one or more of your four-legged family members that have already crossed the Rainbow Bridge (they do not need to have been a greyhound). In either case, to help you tell their story you can add pictures and then share your page with family and friends. They will be able to leave comments on your page and even donate to The Greyhound Health Initiative in memory or in honor of your pup.*

All new Tails pages must be approved by one of our admins before being posted to our site, so there may be a slight delay before you see yours page.

*Funds raised on the Tails pages will go to support The Greyhound Health Initiative’s education, research and other programs. These pages are not intended as fundraising for treatment of individual dogs. If you need assistance with the veterinary costs of ongoing treatment, please see our Resources Page.

Wish to volunteer your services?

We are currently looking for volunteers to help in several areas of our business, including administrative and fundraising as well as more general help representing us at various greyhound events around North America. Please contact us at info@greyhoundhealthinitiative.org for details.

Blood Donors Wanted!

We are currently accepting applications for new blood donors. Please see the Blood Bank page for qualifications and contact information.

Thank you for your support! We couldn't do what we do without the generosity of caring people like you.
